Losing weight has been linked to numerous health benefits, but new research now shows another, added bonus: weight loss may also help to reduce the number of hot flashes in menopausal women.

A study recently published online in the journal of The North American Menopause Society, followed 40 overweight or obese women with hot flashes. The women represented in the study were both white and African-American. Hot flashes were assessed prior to and after the weight loss. The study confirmed that weight loss can hot flashes are associated, and a greater degree of weight loss is correlated with a degree of reduction in hot flashes.

A larger study with more data would help establish the degree of benefit, but for now the this new study confirms that healthy weight loss can remedy some hot flashes. If you are seeking help for your hot flashes, talk to your physician to discuss therapies and strongly consider incorporating a healthier lifestyle if needed. A very interesting observation. I am a male though and have been a weight loss consultant (and Personal Trainer) for many years for both, male and female. In my observation I have not taken any notice of hot flashes in women, having said this, some have complained of symptoms that describe hot flashes and we just took it as part of the fitness of cooling and/or the cold weather and heat during cardio. We shall take more notice of these symptoms and record them. Thanks for the research and information.

I had no idea what was going on but eventually found out about hot flashes. And yes taking care of your diet does help. It did with me. Just be careful of what you eat and get in some exercise and you'll be just fine.

Great information and very true! I found my hot flashes all but disappeared once I lost some weight. Thanks for shedding light for other women so they don't have to deal with these as much!

This is such a helpful resource! Many people have no idea that weight loss can reduce hot flashes, this should be common knowledge! I'll be sure to share this with my readers. 100% certain that they will appreciate this.
