Women typically find it harder to lose weight and inches than men.  This, in part, is due to the fact that  men have more lean muscle mass and a higher resting metabolic rate. Another issue that makes weigh loss challenging for females:   women store fat differently from men--more of it goes to their thighs, buttocks, and hips, where it can be harder to shed.  Finally, female hormones promote the storage of calories as fat, and fat takes up more space than muscle.

As the obesity rate keeps rising, especially among teenage girls, we need to press for more sex based research on exercise, diet, hormones and metabolism!

I think most weight is to do with metabolism and as we get older it gets harder to burn of fat nice post very interesting thanks

I know that testosterone has a metabolism boosting effect on the body, so that could explain some of the benefits for men in terms of burning fat. Also their higher levels of muscle helps them to burn fat throughout the day. It's not fair, but nothing is. I respect an athletic toned woman more because I know how hard she had to work to get there!

To eat healthy here are some simple tips: 1. Eat a lot of vegetables. The fresher the better, organic is the best. 2. Stay away from white food: white break, white rice, etc. Instead substitute whole grain bread and brown rice. 3. Get a lot of protein, lean meats, chicken, fish and tofu are all great sources of protein. 4. Keep sugars to an absolute minimum and drink plenty of water. It's recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day. That will keep your body hydrated and flush toxins from your system. Talk to your doctor or a nutritionist to find a good diet plan for obese women and get yourself in shape. You'll feel better and be healthier and that is priceless. Fetch The Fresh

The post and comments here has really help me on this topic to have a better understanding

I feel that losing stuborn stored fat is most effectively done through nutritional considerations. This is going to be different for body types, age, etc. but comes down to knowledge of good nutrition choices, self evaluation, and experimenting with what works best for yourself instead of trying a one-size fits all template for all women. So cut way back on junk food and change your lifestyle in the direction of healthy eating and you can't go wrong

It's interesting that women think this, and one would wonder why this is. I always find that most of my female clients tend to believe they are not capable of accomplishing great things, but I always seem to prove them wrong :- )

Rather than focusing on what not to eat, a better approach is to focus on improving the quality of what we put into our bodies. Research has shown when the body is well nourished with fresh, delicious food, an insatiable appetite and addictve eatng disappear.

I think the hormones make a major difference. At the same time both genders store fat differently.

It’s truly a nice and useful piece of info. I am satisfied that you simply shared this useful information with us. Please stay us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.

It is so because the fat percentage in the body of an average man is 8% compared to a woman's 22%. When women gain weight, more fat is added except in cases where intense physical trainings allows the muscles to grow. Pregnancy is another factor that needs to be considered, to shed weight, a woman needs to eat more vegetables and fruits, consume less calories than what her body requires, exercise and finally think positive.

That was an informative post. You need to become more active to get those kg shifted. Start with an exercise you enjoy and then vary the routine to prevent boredom settling in. Some exercises are better at fat burning than others so it makes sense to try different activities. You could also choose to have soup several times a week as long as it is not packet or tinned soup as these can contain hidden fats and sugar not to mention salt.

I agree with you about the hormones playing a huge role in how men and women gain weight differently. Many people mistakenly focus on calories when attempting to reduce fat when they could better spend their efforts optimizing their hormones.

So true! :) specially if your a mom and almost no time for yourself anymore

So true. Also with the rate at which female hormones fluctuate, the desire to want to exercise is also affected. I know for myself I’m less likely to want to exercise just before and during menstruation as compared to other times, and I’m someone who really enjoys a good workout.

Many factors contribute. Stress, Sleep, Work, Kids, and eating habits take a large toll on women. Finding and eating the right foods can help.

This is definitely one of the best articles I have read in this website! Thanks Mate

I'm in my late 30's and there are a lot of women my age who are obese or overweight. I am just so blessed that I am not one of them BUT it really came to a point that I was depressed because people associated my being skinny for being problematic, which is not - so I went to see my OB and asked her if she can prescribe me a vitamin for gaining weight. She didn't give me any instead she checked my BMI or body mass index - my weight is just enough for my height, so there was nothing to worry about. Some of my friends however who wanted to lose weight enrolled in the gym but were only excited to attend for the first few weeks and then got tired and stopped. When they stopped going to the gym, we all noticed that they were getting even bigger and we all wondered why.

I agree with you about the hormones playing a huge role in how men and women gain weight differently. Many people mistakenly focus on calories when attempting to reduce fat when they could better spend their efforts optimizing their hormones. This is done differently between men and women but it is best to focus on natural methods (exercise, supplementation, sleep, etc.) of balancing everything out than it would be to pursue hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Change starts with yourself. The most important and difficult thing to do is to change eating habits. Eating healthy food you will notice in a short time the changes in your body and this will make you feel better about yourself. There are a variety of types of diets that surely fits your lifestyle that will help you in this process. A tip: eat 4-5 meals a day, of course healthy food, speeds up your metabolism and therefore helps you to lose weight faster and stay thin for longer, I checked it myself. Another important things to lose weight and feel good is exercising.

I came across this article while surfing the web. It is very enlighting and makes sense. There are a lot of hormone changes in a woman, and this contributes to a slower metabolism.

Very good article, I think the motivation and morale is also important; motivated and happy woman achieve much more than sad and troubled women, so encourage women!

I think one of the contributing factors today that women find it hard to lose weight is the nature of their job that requires them to just sit inside the four corner office and they do not have the time to go to the gym anymore.

Jack - I agree. But... we should also watch what we eat. Thanks

I totally agree from our hormones to all the other emotional baggage we carry I am sure it would be harder for us. I was struggling too with my weight for years and it always got to me how fast my fiance would drop the pounds. But what can we do but work harder. But I like what has been working for me recently and I am gonna stick with it

I think hormonal factors and lifestyle of women currently led to it. Diet and healthy life can help as solution.

Exercising together with your children usually helps too. Spending quality time while losing weight.

this blog makes alot of sense. you have to take one day at a time otherwise you feel so overwhelmed. I've managed to do that with my work and day to day life and it works. Thanks
