The Physical Science Weekend Academy is a one-day program led by Heather Pinkett, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Molecular Biosciences, and Thomas O’Halloran, Morrison Professor of Chemistry. Laboratory learning experiences include protein purification, crystallography and computer imaging procedures to study the structure and function of proteins. PSWA is a one-day intensive chemistry, biochemistry, and math/technoogy boot camp.  Students develop an understanding of the drug design process and how medicines interact with the human body.

Application

Like all Women's Health Science Program (WHSP) academies, Physical Science applicants must be female, Chicago Public School students, in grades 9-12. Applicants should be passing all their current high school classes and possess a passion for science and/or medicine. 

All interested students must submit the following online forms: a student application (with personal statement), parent/guardian support from, and teacher/advisor recommendation form. Qualified applicants will then be invited to an on-campus interview with WHSP program directors.
