About

The Infectious Disease Summer Academy is led by Patricia Garcia, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Fetal-Maternal Medicine; Melissa Simon, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology-General and Medical Social Sciences; and Sarah Sutton, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease.  IDSA offers a sequence of challenging, thematic workshops focusing on the basic science research, clinical applications, and public health in the field of infectious disease and microbiology.  Students are expected to apply their knowledge to create educational materials to share information about preventing the spread of infectious diseases with their peers at school and members of their local communities.

Application

Like all Women's Health Science Program (WHSP) academies, Infectious Disease Summer Academy applicants must be Chicago Public School students in grades 9-12. Applicants should be passing all their current high school classes and possess a passion for science and/or medicine. 

All interested students must submit the following online forms: a student application (with personal statement), parent/guardian support from, and teacher/advisor recommendation form. Qualified applicants will then be invited to an on-campus interview with WHSP program directors.
